Go Therefore...

Apr 3, 2025 | by Dr. Kristen Wright
"Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age."
— Matthew 28:19-20
Before ascending into heaven, Jesus gave his disciples these powerful words—the Great Commission. This calling isn’t just for the original twelve; it’s for all of us who follow Christ. It’s how we share the good news of his love and grace with the world.
I’m thrilled to share that Ashland Place UMC, alongside Spanish Fort UMC, will be joining Fairhope UMC for a special mission trip to Costa Rica! Fairhope UMC has partnered with this ministry for over 20 years, sending teams to serve and build relationships in the community. Representing Ashland Place will be our Missions Committee Chair, Beth Morrow, committee members Bob Sharp, Tomi Sue Mayer, and me! As we go, we do so as an extension of this church—bringing with us the love, prayers, and support of our Ashland Place family.
As followers of Christ, we are all called to serve—to be the hands and feet of Jesus in the world. This trip is one way we are answering that call. By working alongside missionaries in the San José area and serving at the United Methodist Children's Home, we hope to be a reflection of God’s grace and compassion. Our prayer is that this will be the first of many opportunities to serve in this way.
Even if you are not traveling with us, you can be part of this mission! Your prayers and financial gifts are vital to this work. A special love offering will be collected during our Palm Sunday lunch, with all proceeds directly benefiting the Children's Home and supporting the ongoing ministry in Costa Rica.
Our team departs on Sunday, April 27, and returns late on Friday, May 2. Please keep us, the missionaries, and the children we encounter in your prayers. May this time of service deepen our faith, strengthen our relationships, and remind us that wherever we go, God is already at work.
Thank you for your prayers and support!
Grace and peace,
Kristen
