Easter Joy!

Apr 24, 2025 | by Dr. Kristen Wright
What a joy it was to celebrate the risen Christ with 447 people in worship on Easter Sunday! From the triumphant music to the beautiful flowers, from the packed seats to the smiling faces-it was a day overflowing with life and light. What a gift!
And yet, as glorious as Easter morning was, we know that the story isn't over. In fact, the Easter season has just begun.
One of my favorite Easter stories is the road to Emmaus (Luke 24:13-35). Two disciples walk along the road, overwhelmed and heartbroken, convinced that the story of Jesus had ended in the tomb. Even as the risen Lord walked beside them, they didn't recognize him. It wasn't until he broke the bread that their eyes were opened and their hearts burned with recognition.
The road to Emmaus offers a powerful reminder: Jesus is always with us-though often in the most unexpected places. We anticipate encountering him in church on Easter Sunday, but what about in the kindness of a stranger? In a sudden interruption? In the quiet insight of a child? This story reminds us that the risen Lord walks beside us not only on the high holy days, but in the everyday moments-often where we least expect him.
Easter isn't just a day we celebrate; it's a way of living. The resurrection changes everything. It invites us to walk in hope, to love with courage, and to live as people who know that Jesus is among us-calling, sending, and restoring all of creation.
In that spirit, I have two specific prayer requests for this week:
- Please be in prayer for our Costa Rica mission team, who will begin their journey this weekend. Pray for safe travels, meaningful conversations, and hearts open to God's movement.
- And please pray for our eleven confirmands, who will be professing their faith and officially joining Ashland Place UMC this Sunday. What a joy it is to witness these young people stepping forward in faith!
May the good news of Easter continue to transform us, lead us, and unite us. Christ is risen-and we are still walking the road together.
Grace and peace,
Kristen
